Travel to France during confinement. Through their gastronomy.

Swap Family invites you to travel to France during confinement without leaving home. Travel through some of their typical gastronomy. Get the kids in the kitchen making these easy recipes and discovering other cultures. Another ideal plan for those confinement days.

This week we invite you to travel to France. Do you want to come with us?

France has a great culinary wealth, we have selected 3 of its typical dishes that we find ideal and fun to prepare with kids.

Let’s prepare Crêpes!

What do we need?

  • 30 g. butter.
  • 2 eggs.
  • 125 g. flour.
  • 20 g. sugar.
  • Tiny dash of salt.
  • 250 ml. milk
  • Some olive oil or butter (for the pan).

How to prepare?

  • Melt the butter.
  • Whisk the butter, sugar, eggs, salt and milk, together.
  • Add in the flour, a little bit at a time, whisking until the flour has been mixed in.
  • Cover the bowl and let it rest in the fridge for about an hour, in this way the flour will hydrate and the dough will take on more body, also the bubbles that have been generated when whisking the ingredients will be lost. Then, give it a quick whisk again before using.
  • To make the thin crêpes we will use a non-stick skillet. Put it to heat painted with olive oil (if you prefer you can use a little butter instead).
  • Pour a ladle of dough and flip the pan so that it is distributed throughout the base, leaving a thin layer.
  • Cook for one minute over medium-high heat and flip to brown on the other side.
  • Repeat the same until you finish with the prepared dough. The number of crêpes will vary depending on the diameter of the pan and how thin they are made.
  • The crepes are ready to fill with whatever you want (salty or sweet), they can even be eaten alone, they are delicious.

  • Powdered sugar and vanilla.
  • Chocolate.
  • Banana and strawberries.
  • Strawberry and whipped cream.
  • Strawberry and chocolate.
  • Ice cream and nuts.
  • Yogurt and honey.
  • Ham and cheese.
  • Spinach and mushroom.
  • Smoked salmon and cream cheese.

A Quiche Lorraine?

What do we need (for 4 servings)?

  • 1 Shortcrust pastry.
  • 200 g. thick slices of bacon. Better if it’s not smoked.
  • 3 eggs.
  • 30 cl whole double cream.
  • Salt and pepper.
  • Nutmeg.

How to prepare?

  • Preheat oven to 200°C.
  • Dice the bacon slices. Brown them during 3 minutes without any oil or butter at high heat into a pan.
  • Whisk the eggs, the cream, the salt, the pepper and the nutmeg in a bowl until getting a smooth and homogeneous texture.
  • Roll out the shortcrust pastry in a pie plate. Then, prick pastry all over with a fork.
  • Spread the grilled diced bacon on the pastry and finally cover with the egg and cream preparation.
  • Down the temperature of the oven to 170°C, and put the Quiche. Lorraine at the bottom part of the oven. Bake it for approximately 30 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy it!

Would you like to prepare a Croque Monsieur?

What do we need (to prepare 4 Croque Monsieur)?

  • White bread 8 slices.
  • Gruyere cheese 8 slices.
  • Ham (medium to thick) 8 slices.
  • Grated cheese.
  • Bechamel sauce:
    • 200 ml whole milk
    • 15 grams Flour
    • 10 gram butter
    • Salt
    • Pepper

How to prepare?

  • We’ll first prepare the bechamel sauce. Heat the butter in a pan and add the flour. We remove a couple of minutes so that it cooks slightly and add the milk. We will do it little by little while we stir so that there are no lumps. When there is no more milk to add, add a pinch of salt and pepper, taste-test, and add more if needed. And cook over a low heat for ten minutes.
  • Spread all the slices of bread with a generous layer of bechamel.
  • On four of them we spread two slices of ham and two of cheese.
  • Place the remaining bread slices on top of the ham and cheese to assemble the sandwiches, with the layer of béchamel facing down (which is in contact with the cheese).
  • Finally, we cover each sandwich with another layer of béchamel sauce and sprinkle with plenty of grated cheese. Gratin for ten minutes or until the top is golden.
  • We serve immediately and enjoy!
