New learning methods have emerged from the quarantine.

As many of you already know, Swap Family has changed and evolved in the last months. To adapt the new reality marked by the global Covid-19 pandemic.

And we are not the only ones, today we want to talk about Les Puces.

The Les Puces method was originally created by British Mandie Davis 15 years ago. When she arrived in the Charente region (France) and her children were 7 and 3 years old.  She volunteered in the local primary schools and ran after school clubs to help children to learn English. As the children in those schools grew and moved to college, she received reports from parents that the children were excelling in English.

When she returned to the UK decided to start her own business, she will work with French teachers to develop her method in the UK.

“The level of language teaching in England is very similar to that in France; it’s very dependent on the level of knowledge of the local teacher and that can lead to children disliking languages. I wanted to make it fun and for children to realize that; there’s a big world out there to explore and friends to make in many other countries.”

The method took off and Mandie’s French teachers were going to schools across the south east of England.

Their plans where to expand across the UK in 2020 … but then Covid-19 hit.

“We lost all of our classes. As the schools closed and, even when they did reopen, they were not accepting outside providers to come into the schools.  Many of my teachers moved back to their home countries to be with their families during lockdown. And now with Brexit we didn’t know if they would be able to return.”

Mandie used the downtime to develop and launch an exciting new online hybrid French learning experience for children across the UK.  Mandie decided to return to the Charente and to make France her permanent home.  From there a natural next step was to launch Les Puces to teach English to French speaking children.

“It’s taken a lot of work.  I have a small team that have helped me to develop the French/English side of the course. And I am confident that families here will love the Les Puces concept.”

How does it work and what’s different in Les Puces method?

Every 2 months you get the chance to unlock a trove of online learning; videos, worksheets, games, karaoke, songs and storytelling as well as receiving an exciting parcel with a bilingual book, project and worksheets in the post.

Children are encouraged to enjoy the activities without feeling the dread of learning something difficult. Firstly they learn in a natural way. Secondly are involved in the lessons. Thirdly, find languages easier. Fourthly, lose resistance and fear for languages. And understand about other cultures in an intuitive way.

“The method used is totally different to mainstream teaching.  Everything about Les Puces is innovative!”

And today Les Puces method is online and has also become an English school for French people.

You can find more information about the Les Puces method, pack and modules on the Website, on Facebook, on Instagram and on Twitter.
